The Inner sidewalls can affect the sound in several ways. Hollowed out pieces like older Links, and the REALLY old Buescher pieces get a rounder, darker sound because the inner sidewalls were carved out in a concave manner. Straighter sidewalls tend to give a brighter, more immediate sound to the piece.
