The tiprail is perhaps the most delicate feature of the mouthpiece. It should be about the width of a penny (.035") and parallel the edge of the mouthpiece uniformly with the shape of the reed. Too thin and chirps and squeaks may occur, too thick and it may dull the response. There are also response factors that can occur due to the angle of the tip rail.
